The great singer Sérgio Godinho is (part I)

I have to explain why I’m posting in my facebook page so many youtube Sérgio Godinho songs. As a matter of fact, I consider Sérgio one of the best Portuguese singers since ever. Their songs and their lyrics are real master pieces.

After Portuguese revolution, in 1974, Sérgio returned from France and recorded several albuns with what we call «songs intervention». It was a rich era in wich a lot of people could make known their art forms. The called «Fascism» was replaced by a democratic regime. Well, but the time passed and today, after years of hope and prosperity, here we are in a new piece of history. Sad, painful, unfortunately. But unavoidable.

So, Sérgio Godinho, the 1974 interventional singer, remains current. Now, he sings excellent ballads, but the 36 years old songs and poems make history again today. As an example I’ll post two of them. First «Venho Aqui Falar», which means «I Come Here To Talk». Enjoy the song and understand the lyric, valid for any country.

 Lyric:
Today I come here to talk
Of something that goes to torment me
And as much as I think or more I skepticism
How people so socialist
Give up of doing socialism
Is like wanting to make giblet rice
With no chicken, nor rice, nor a pot

Today I come here to talk
Of something that goes to torment me
And as much as I think or more I skepticism
That this great reconstruction work
Looks more like an eviction
Is how to install a window
Shoot first the glasses by the alley

I can not be here tomorrow
But also for what I repeat here
Is that I’m not the only one to think
That what we have is to be together (united)
Together as the grapes in the bunch
