The Authentizotic dream

Manfred Kets de Vries is an authority on organizational climate and leadership. His life role is making organizations better places to work. As he says «(...) The biggest challenge of organizational leadership today is to create corporations with authentizotic qualities. Working in these organizations provides an antidote to stress, a healthier existence, and contributes to a more fulfilling life. These organizations help their employees maintain an effective balance between personal and organizational life. Above all, these are organizations where we continue to learn - where we learn from experience.»

«There's a famous Sufi story about the legendary figure Nasrudin. Once upon a time, an eager student visited him and asked, "Oh, great sage, I must ask you a very important question, the answer to which we all desire. What is the secret to attaining happiness?" Nasrudin thought for a time and then responded, "The secret of happiness is to make the right decisions"
"Oh!", said the student, "But how do we know to make the right decisions?"
"From experience", answered Nasrudin. "Yes, but how do we get that experience?", asked the student. "By making the wrong decisions", said Nasrudin.»
An old proverb tells us that a smart man learns form his experience, but a wise man learns from the experiences of others. (...)

Authentizotic it's for sure a weird word, however has a strong and deep meaning. Manfred Kets de Vries has merged two Greek words: authenteekos and zoteekos. The first conveys the idea that the organization is authentic, which means worthy of trust and reliance. Authenticity implies providing a vision, a mission, a culture and a structure. Means too a clearly idea of why, not only how. The second, zoteekos, means «vital to life». Implies a sense of balance and completeness associated with a cognition and learning. «The zoteekos elemente of authentizotic organizations allows self-assertion in the workplace and produces a sense of effectiveness and competency, autonomy, iniciative, creativity, entrepreneurship, and industry. These are the organizations we need to hope for», says Kets de Vries.

A new era is coming up. The world is in a huge changing process. The old patterns are about to fall. This is a great opportunity to making something new. Better. This implies doing what we are not doing and stop doing what we are doing.
