«Idiotas Não» é uma excelente regra

(in English)
Apply now the No Assholes Rule. It's Urgent

I am reading a book by Robert Sutton, Professor of Business Administration at the Stanford University. His work «The No Asshole Rule» is delighting me while making me remember sad things, and many.

The «No Idiots Rule» there is already successfully used in companies in the U.S. These companies are productive and innovative. Wipe those who scream, demean, provoke, annoy, insult colleagues and customers. These people are automatically banned, without mercy. Good.

An executive is hired, it seems a good person and good professional, passes the tests, like in the interview. In the first week of work is seen to rage with the receptionist, humiliating her. For it is fired. «We do not want people like you, not here, get out»

Sutton ranks idiots all specimens that make people feeling sick, abusers, run over the work space and others, mock, etc. Sutton divides them into two groups: Temporary and Certificates. The temporary bursts of idiocy are rare but on balance it is accepted. Certificates are always idiots. There is no other option but to send them away.

Sutton also warns: Never put a fool in a place of recruitment. He will choose more and more like him. And the idiots have an overwhelming capacity to reproduce.
The golden rule of Robert Sutton, based on field investigations: Stay away from them. Leonardo da Vinci said: «Do not join the fools.»
Da Vinci rule is strong. He says that «it is easier to resist at the beginning than the end», which means that however much you fight, to resist, you wont ever give up. The more certain it is becoming stupid.
Therefore, the more time spent mired in nasty people, more we tend to become like them.

The eagerness to adapt, to continue to make money, to maintain the status will make you tolerate all manner of stupidity. With time, your attitude and behavior will be compatible with the herd.

An excellent book and a timely reading in view of what goes on in this world in crisis because so many idiots walked much time on the loose. Look at the mess they made.

Uma preparação adequada é a chave do sucesso

(in portuguese)

Resistir a tentações gastadoras.

Proper preparation is the key to success
«So what do you counsel us, so that we become rich?», Asked friends to the rich Arkad. «I advise you to say to yourself: A part of everything I earn is mine. Say it in the morning, so wake up, afternoon, evening, every hour of every day. Say it until the words become drawn in letters of fire in the sky. Convince yourselves of that idea. Absorb it. After you elect an amount that seems reasonable, at least a tenth, to put aside (...)»

An ancient story shows us how simple it can be to live well, rich or very rich. The principles are current, the behaviors and actions to take are the same. You must have discipline. Resist the temptation to spend. Escape from interest rates.

The book is on sale and is best-seller for many years. In this work, «The Richest Man in Babylon», by George S. Clason, there is not an amount of formulas to enrich. More than that. The first advice is to save. Spend less than you earn. At least 10% spend less than we won.

A disarming logic theorists certainties. So simple to follow. Oh, another thing, it takes patience and there's no place to avarice or greed.

A country is what people think country is

(Now in English)
Karl Weick is a professor of organizational psychology at the University of Michigan, and is the author of the best definition of organizational culture that I know:
«The setting that takes an organization (organizational design) is what people believe the organization is, and what people believe that the organization is, is the basis for what people do, and what people do in organizations is Indeed, the design of the organization.»

As the country without danger of being badly compared, is the largest we have, and is managed by people who define the rules that regulate human behavior, then we have the following:
«The setting that takes a country is what people believe the country is, and what people believe the country is is the basis for what people do, and what people do in the country is, indeed, climate, the country's culture.»

In Portugal we have a deep cultural crisis now in behavior. Especially those who determine the culture and mood of the country. Who is at the top gives the example and provides the basis of attitude and how everything works. What is tolerated, allowed, sanctioned, or not ethical and so on.

Read the newspapers, listen to people in cafes, on street, in TV interviews, meetings with friends, in formal or informal. And what we have? A climate of distrust and disdain for the political class that Portugal has built all these years. The sentences will be heard too such as "They're all thieves," "They do get away, just steal ',' Politicians are all liars," "They are a bunch of ignorant," "Only if they promote and friends ',' No wonder the country ',' Never worked seriously in life, "" dishonest people are." And much more had to play. I do not remember anything positive to be said. I remember expressions less bad, but more the way of 'boiling water', just to tame such sadness and shame.

Karl Weick
And back to the original definition of Weick: what people believe that politicians are determines what they do or intend to do so. It means that wreak ribaldry: "If I can evade taxes, well that is just ',' I'd like to leave the country," which is the saddest and most recurrent claims that are made. "It was good I was to retire right now if it were possible ', which is another good illustration of how working here is.

We are therefore facing a moral collapse. A crisis of honesty and morality that still do not know how it will end. It is a curiosity that I maintain. Serious financial consequences, so we already know. But as will be the rules and values of living together going forward? What parents tell us will be valid? Morality will be taught in the Bible books to follow?

Final question: What is currently a paradox in relation to what? The principles they taught us or the current behavior? It will be the first against the second or vice versa?

What to ignore to live better

I can't resist publish this text from Dan Rockwell, Leadership freak blog

This is a great lesson of how to seek happiness and success. There are some things we have to ignore in order to keep focus in what we want. Here you are:

Ignore occasional failure in others. Let people fail and learn on their own.
Ignore occasional insults. People won’t always understand your passion or vision. They may say things that feel like insults, let it go. In addition, people who say, “I told you so,” aren’t worth your attention.
Ignore your own failures and successes. If past failures discourage more than instruct, forget them. If past successes inspire arrogance, forget them. Sometimes it’s better to forget what is behind in order to move forward.
Ignore stupid counsel. Say thank-you for the input, forget it, and move on. A word of caution, sometimes wise counsel sounds stupid. When people with a proven track record sound stupid, listen again, reconsider, and ask questions. Their counsel may not be stupid.
Ignore persistent critics. Turn away from those who always see the bad and never see the good.
Ignore rules. Innovation is rule breaking. Helen Frankenthaler said, ”Go against the rules or ignore the rules. That is what invention is about.”

Warning: Ignoring things can be dangerous. Jim Evans commented, «Another way to lose control is to ignore something when you should address it»
Typically, leaders see and do. However, ignoring things may take you further than acting on them. You may be more effective and more efficient when you turn away and let some things go.
